Vineyard

The Armstrong hillside vineyard at Patutahi in Poverty Bay. Planted on silty, clay loam soils with an easterly aspect allows access for cooling sea breezes to temper the vineyard’s micro-climate, minimising acid loss during ripening and retaining the freshness required for good Riesling.

Winemaking

Machine harvested and gently pressed in Gisborne, the juice was transported to our winery where it underwent a long, slow cold Germanic style fermentation for 10 weeks.
With lees stirring and back blending of sweet reserve juice this has given the wine a natural residual sugar of 19 grams/litre and a crisp lingering acidic finish.

Viticulture

A unique clone of Riesling, a variety rare for a latitude this far north. Proven to be very successful by the internationally famous Millton vineyard at nearby Manutuke, these older vines (12-15 years) are now realising their true potential. This wine exhibits a lifted flroal and fragrant nose with an aroma of peach, honeysuckle blossom and beeswax. This carries through onto the palate with stunning candied apple tastes. Some initial sweetness is quickly matched with a crisp lingering acidity.
An ideal aperitif or match with your favourite dish or a fat East Coast crayfish.

Packaging

Sealed under a screw cap to retain the quality and freshness.
