The Woodbox is the winery restaurant at Mystery Creek Wines - a converted wooden homestead perched high on the banks of the Waikato River and surrounded by the Mystery Creek home block, a 5ha vineyard producing award winning wines.
The 85-seat restaurant was opened in November 2007 and has been an immediate hit with both locals and visitors to the Waikato.
The moment you arrive the ambience grabs you, from the floor to ceiling schist chimney housing a huge open fire to the sprawling decks and the secluded dining areas looking out over the river and surrounding countryside.
Our dream was to bring to you what we love about contemporary dining and an uncompromising passion for food and wine. We showcase an array of tapas, wood-fired gourmet pizzas and some of the freshest, most delectable local meat, vegetables and, of course, wine.
Our superb team of chefs, headed by part-owner Matt, are passionate about their craft and want you to taste the very best of local fare. The key influences in Matt’s life have been cooking in Auckland, Melbourne and Rotorua - owning and operating funky spots that soon became the talk of the town.
Add the front of house Charlotte and Lisa have brought together and one of the finest, most approachable wine lists in New Zealand and it’s no wonder The Woodbox is the place to be and be seen.
