2014 Chardonnay

Home Block vineyard at our winery site on the South bank of the Waikato River. The loam soils of the site are interspersed with river gravels which creates potential for strong canopies but with good soil drainage. This vines for this Chardonnay where the first vines planted at Mystery Creek Wines.

Ripe fruit was gently pressed to tank and cold settled for around 48 hours prior to racking. The clear juice was racked to a mix of new and old barrels for wild inoculation and cool fermention until each parcel tasted in balance. The wine was allowed to rest on lees for three to six months with lees stirring on selected barrels. Immediately prior to bottling the wine was carefully blended, filtered and bottled.

Tasting Note
The palate has complex layers of citrus and minerals, finishing with a long tight structure.
Fragrant citrus, complex flint and nut aromas combine with a distinctive core of mineral, lemon and mealy characters to form a seamless palate, delicate and complex Chardonnay displaying stylish finesse. Fine-grained French oak and refined acidity create a tightly woven palate with understated concentration and length. This wine will develop complex mineral and toast like characters with bottle age.
